The Mission for Miracles Made Thru Research (MMTR) is to fund research projects in pediatric chronic liver disease, pediatric end-stage liver disease, and De Novo Autoimmune Hepatitis.
Established in 2011, Miracles Made Thru Research is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded by Neil, Maysoon, Yasmeen, Ibrahim and Adam Haleem out of Orland Park, IL.
From his birth in 1992 until October 1997, Ibrahim endured four life-saving liver transplants at the University of Chicago Hospitals. His mother, Maysoon, was his first donor, donating a 20% portion of her liver in July 1992. His body rejected each transplanted liver until October 4, 1997 when his fourth liver transplant occured.
In 2002, Ibrahim's health suffered a setback and he was diagnosed with De Novo Autoimmune Hepatitis (learn more about d-AIH here) at age 10. Although his fourth liver transplant was successful, his body has been through a multitude of infections since his 2002 diagnosis. However, with the help of research and evolving medicine, Ibrahim is and will continue to live a healthy and vibrant life while serving as the underlying inspiration for the creation of Miracles Made Thru Research.
Neil and Maysoon Haleem discuss the obstacles they faced with their son, Ibrahim Haleem, a four-time liver transplant recipient.
